Weeklong Retreat in Umbria, Italy
Join Us for a Week of Yoga, Meditation and Fun Under the Umbrian Sky
La Casella, Umbria, Italy
Sep 24-30, 2009
Yoga enhances the vibrancy of our body, heart and mind. Meditation cultivates
a realization of our essential nature—our innate clarity. Both systems
bring us home to ourselves. Taking time away from our busy schedules to
commit our attention to our inner development naturally accelerates our
evolution, while also bringing us into new and refreshed ways of being
with ourselves and our life.
This retreat will incorporate Sarah’s unique style of passive Yin
poses with an active or Yang (flow) practice to assist in balancing our
overall well being, while opening the body and enlivening the mind for
meditation. Yin yoga is an essential complement to our active, strong
practices and lives. The Yin style keeps the body supple at its core while
encouraging stagnate chi (prana) to flow throughout the joints, balancing
the organ and meridian systems. Drawing from Buddhism, Sarah will give
talks during the Yin practice to encourage a greater capacity for emotional
maturity and mindful awareness in our practices, as well as in our lives.
A Yang (flow style) asana practice will follow, geared toward strengthening
the core while encouraging ease and grace in movement.
We
will begin each day in a silent sitting practice, with two yoga sessions
most days. Three cultural excursions will also be offered to deepen your
enjoyment of the uniqueness of Italy.
Sarah Powers began teaching in 1987. She interweaves
the insights and practices of Yoga and Buddhism into an integral practice
to enliven the body, heart and mind. Her yoga style blends both a Yin
sequence of long held poses to enhance the meridian and organ systems,
combined with a flow or Yang practice, influenced by Viniyoga, Ashtanga,
and Iyengar teachings. Sarah feels that enlivening the physical and pranic
bodies, as well as learning to open to our emotional afflictions is paramount
for preparing us to deepen and nourish insights into our essential nature--a
natural state of awareness. She draws from her studies in Transpersonal
Psychology, as well as her in-depth training in the Vipassana, Tantric
and Dzogchen practices of Buddhism. She teaches trainings and silent retreats
with her husband Ty. They live in Marin, California.
Ty
Powers has been practicing yoga since 1987 and managing yoga
retreats since 1992. Ty is a graduate of the Dharma Leader training program
at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, under the guidance of Jack Kornfield,
James Baraz and Ajahn Amaro. He has been co-teaching diversity daylongs
at Spirit Rock for a few years. His primary teacher is Tsoknyi Rinpoche. Ty is also a mentor and Life Coach to several men and women around the globe.
