Living an Authentic Life ; Making Sacred Choices

Led by Chris Burris and Ty Powers

The Sacred Journey of Life Program is held in various parts of the world each year. This year it will be held in a beautiful new retreat center called Mandali on Lake Orta in northern Italy. The theme is: Living an Authentic Life; Making Sacred Choices.

This five-day retreat will focus on how we make choices. To choose wisely, we must align ourselves with our deepest values. We are calling this alignment Sacred Choice. Making choices in a sacred manner is experienced as inspiration, compassion, connection, and curiosity. Many of the choices we make in life are driven by two primary instincts; the urge to survive, and the desire to be loved. These two inclinations can distort or even obscure our quest for the sacred.

The Survival Parts (aspects) of our personality, being largely fear based and linked to threats to our very existence, feel compelled to see things in dire terms, and therefore make their ‘case’ with considerable force and compulsion. These compulsions can dominate a large percentage of our daily attention and drive our choices. In the same vein, Parts that direct and maintain the need to have a lovable identity can experience an identical threat to survival, causing us to make similar fear based choices.

If we are not fully aware of these forces, they will lead us to behaviors that are at odds with our highest purpose and cause us (and others) a great deal of unnecessary suffering.

In this weeklong retreat Chris and Ty will share teachings, meditations and practices designed to help us see this dynamic more clearly, offering each of us the possibility for more insight, compassion and creative engagement with our inner and outer circumstances.

Receptivity and inquiry are important starting points for engaging an open and spacious heart. This opening is needed to allow our higher (sacred) purpose to shine through. This unique retreat combines the time-tested practices of Buddhist Mindfulness meditation and Inquiry with Internal Family Systems work, along with various other methods drawn from several ancient traditions.
