Insight Yoga Book
Insight
Yoga is s series of practices distilled by Sarah Powers. These combined
disciplines, some yogic, some Buddhist and some Taoists, are designed
to identify, open and strengthen the various physical and psychological
components of one’s experience-- fostering a kinder, clearer and
altogether healthier and more mature relationship to one’s self
and others. Insight Yoga inspires this psychospiritual transformation
through passive (yin) and active (Yang) yoga postures combined with breathing
practices, visualization, mindfulness meditation, self inquiry and dialogue,
and extended periods of silence.

"I was one of Sarah’s teachers
near the beginning of her yoga study. It’s lovely to see the fruits
of her evolving journey. Her emphasis on meditation is particularly
noteworthy, salutary, and her awesome synthesis of the various wisdom
traditions is solid and interesting. Indeed, each tradition is like
a transparent map which when overlaid one upon another gives a more
complete rendering of the Living Event in which we are all participants.
Insight Yoga will be of tremendous interest and benefit to many people.
May her book promote further insight into Reality-As-It-Is!"
Erich Schiffmann, author of YOGA: The Spirit
and Practice of Moving into Stillness
"In the Bhagavad Gita Krishna defines Yoga
as "equanimity" (samatva) or the balance of all opposing principles.
But practice in most modern Yoga schools is generally unbalanced, favoring
the active over the receptive. Sarah Powers' work restores the balance
between what classical Yoga calls determined effort (abhyasa) or "making
happen," and "dispassion" (vairagya) or "letting
happen." She seamlessly integrates her unique expressions of these
two complementary approaches, Yin and Yang Yogas, with traditional Chinese
medicine, Taoism and Buddhism to create one of the most complete and
balanced systems of modern Yoga. The Yoga Path of Awareness is a teaching
of great warmth and intelligence, that will heal your body, invigorate
your mind, and inspire your soul."
Richard Rosen, author of The Yoga of Breath
"When I first met Sarah I noticed that there
was something special about her. It didn’t take me long to figure
out that she was a yogini of relentless curiosity and great depth. In
Insight Yoga she lets the reader into her thinking, her practice and
her life in a way that both inspires and instructs. Ms. Powers has offered
us a narrative of her learning, and we are fortunate to have her wisdom
on the page so we can revisit it over and over. I especially enjoyed
the effortlessness of how she combined the yoga poses with Chinese meridians.
Insight Yoga is destined to become a classic, enjoyed by beginners and
experienced practitioners as well."
Judith Hanson Lasater, Ph. D., PT, has taught
yoga around the world since 1971 and is the author of seven books,
including the upcoming Yoga Moves: The Anatomy of Asana
"Sarah Powers brings us a truly brilliant
integration of yin and yang yoga, mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy and
psychology, and the genius of traditional Chinese medicine. In less
skillful hands this might be overwhelming, but Powers’s work is
a marvel of lucidity—presenting very complex ideas and practices
with the kind of straightforwardness that makes them easy to digest.
This book belongs in the library of every serious practitioner of yoga
and meditation."
Stephen Cope, Director, Kripalu Institute for
Extraordinary Living, and author of Yoga and the Quest for the
True Self and The Wisdom of Yoga
"Sarah Powers interweaves the ancient practices
of Taoism, Buddhism, and yoga, and skillfully brings them beyond intellectual
study, into the body and heart for a deeply healing experience."
